We rely too much on other things - possessions, accomplishments, comfort, the "American Dream" - our own little "kingdoms."
We do not have an intense abhorrence of sin, but we actually flirt with it.
We have too many religious activities, too many Christian "resources," sometimes too much "knowledge" of the truth - but not a sense of utter dependence on the Word of God, and on the God of the Word.
We are not disciples of Christ, willing to have the kingdom of God as the ultimate focus of our lives.
We do not have an all-consuming desire to live the "radical" expression of love for God and neighbor - and "neighbor" includes our enemies and the people we do not feel "comfortable" around.
... if we are willing to love God more than our possessions and accomplishments - all that we have
... and to love our neighbor and his good more than we love ourselves
... and to hate sin with all our might, while at the same time refusing to back down from a genuine - and even sacrificial - love for the sinner
... and to live with utter dependence on God - his Word to us and our prayer to him
