In this judgment, Jesus took the ''deserved'' punishment for the sins of his people - ''all'' who are willing to repent of their sins, turn to God, and follow Jesus. In this event ''our'' sins were placed upon Jesus. He was the atoning sacrifice that took away our guilt. He accomplished ''forever'' what could only be hinted at by the sacrifices of the [[Old Covenant]] (many of which were a ''picture'' of what he would do).

But the story dos not stop here. By his resurrection, he ''replaced'' the [[Old Covenant]] with the [[New Covenant|New]], just like the prophets had foretold. He ''fulfilled'' the Law and satisfied its requirements. He also took the Law "written on stone" and embedded the its requirements in the ''hearts'' of his followers - so that the desire to do what is right is now ''internal''. (This is one of the ways a ''genuine'' follower of Jesus can be distinguished from a ''fake'' - of which there are many.)
