[[Genesis 6:1-8]] - The Flood would cause the genetic variation within each species to be severely truncated. The range of potential genetic variation that existed ''prior to'' that time was greater than any that has been observed by humans since then.

[[Genesis 11:1-9]] - The confusion of languages: This judgment (against a unified rebellion against God) had a significant impact on the "gene pool" of the various groups who were scattered. Had they ''obeyed'' God and spread out with one universal language and speech, people across the ''entire world'' would have been able to freely mingle and marry. Had this happened, a greater genetic diversity would have been maintained. But the way it ended up (because of human sin), the inability of each group to understand the others resulted in increasing isolation. Because of this, the genetic variation within each isolated group became smaller.

[[Genesis 11:10-32]] - As the people spread out after the Flood (and after Babel), the total available "gene pool" within the various small groups would shrink. (This has a significant impact on the lifespans of the people - as seen in the ages given in the genealogies!)
:Also, the available options for marriage (genetically speaking) would become fewer. However, since the "gene pool" was ''still'' relatively large (compared with today), and perhaps more significantly, since destructive genetic mutations hadn't yet accumulated to the degree they have since then, such marriages did not result in the problems they would today.
