"The secret things belong to the LORD our God,
but the things that are revealed belong to us
and to our children forever,
that we may do all the words of this law."
There are things for us to know; there are things for us to not know. Oh that we would gain the wisdom to distinguish between the two!
So many times, we ask questions about things that God has not revealed to us, all the while ignoring what has been clearly revealed in his Word. Yet God gives us what we need for life and godliness, not what we want for satisfying our idle curiosity.
Let us take to heart the words of this verse, and receive with joy all the things God has already given us! Then, if it really matters, we can ask God about all those other things, in eternity, when we stand in his presence. If we don't take heed to what he has already revealed to us, then we really won't have much opportunity to find out about those other things, either.
Perhaps we could state it this way: "What God wants us to know, he will tell us... the rest is none of our business!"
