Before the Flood: lifespans tended to be around 900 years.
Immediately after the Flood: lifespans were about 440 years.
After Babel: lifespans began dropping steadily from about 230 years down to 150 years at the time Israel entered Egypt.
- Date of Babel estimated, based on statement in Genesis 10:25, about the earth being "divided."
By Moses' day (about 400 years later): lifespans tended to be 70-80 years (Psalm 90:10).
Probable factors would include:
- Change in environmental conditions after the flood
- Most of the diversity in the gene pool is lost at the Flood.
- Further shrinking of the gene pool, as small groups separate from each other.

- Job lived 140 years after his restoration to blessing. He could lived a total of more than 200 years.
- In Moses' day: "The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years..." (Psa 90:10) This represented the normal life expectancy. (Noah himself lived longer than this - 120 years.)
