This may be a temporary page, collecting verses that refer to misc. judgments that are: 1) small in size, 2) (potentially) ecological/environmental in nature, and 3) not listed elsewhere.

SUGGESTION: This page could be used as either a main category, or as a subcategory in which Scripture specifically describes the event as a judgment. (At this time, the focus is on collecting information... later it can be sorted out.)

  • There have been times when God told people to destroy something related to the environment, as part of the necessary judgment against a wicked people. At other times, the destruction (or environmental change) was the indirect consequence or result of the judgment that occurred. Either way, the ultimate reason for the change was the sin of the people - sin that had continued for so long that it needed to be judged.

Deuteronomy 29:1-29

God's judgment on the land of those who reject his covenant -
  • the land will endure plagues and sicknesses with which Yahweh has made it sick;
  • the whole land of it will be sulfur, and salt, and a burning,
  • it will not be sown, nor will it bear anything, nor will any any grass grow therein,
  • it will be like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: ...

1 Samuel 12:16-25

Because of Israel's wickedness in asking for a king, God sent thunder and rain to destroy their wheat harvest. (The issue involved their desire to be like the neighboring pagan nations, and to trust in a king, rather than trusting God.)

Isaiah 6:9-13

Because the people refused to repent, they would be taken into captivity and the land would be destroyed. The land would become "utterly waste."

Isaiah 24:1-23

A description of the horrifying (and inescapable) judgment that will come upon those who do these evil things (described previously in Isaiah). People will be totally overwhelmed by this judgment - which will be "raining down" from the sky and "bursting forth" from the earth. (Compare this with v. 1-3.) This passage seems to emphasize a violent, global catastrophe.
