Compare this with God's definition of marriage, Genesis 2:24.

Genesis 2:24 Genesis 2:24 - Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. Jesus affirms that it was God who said this: Matthew 19:4-6 He [Jesus] answered, "Haven't you read that he [God] who made them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall join to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh?' So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don't let man tear apart." (Both parts of the sentence refer back to the word "he," referring to God: God "made" and God "said.")
