- Two ways to identify a false prophet:
- The sign or wonder doesn't come to pass.
- He tries to get you to follow other gods.
- They are trying to get you to abandon the God who bought you out of slavery.
- You must put to death false prophets, as well as those who follow them.
- False prophets must be put to death.
- "... when a prophet speaks in the name of Yahweh, if the thing doesn't follow, nor happen, that is the thing which Yahweh has not spoken: the prophet has spoken it presumptuously, you shall not be afraid of him."
- Also includes those "who shall speak in the name of other gods (v. 20)."
- The response of the false prophets to what Micah said (Micah 2:6) - "Don't prophesy!" They prophesy. "Don't prophesy about these things. Disgrace won't overtake us." (They are more concerned about sounding "positive" - using pleasant words - than about being truthful.)
