The glory of God radiates from the faces of the righteous who have stood physically in his presence.
This happened to Moses, when he was in God's presence for 40 days (Exodus 34:29-32). In fact, when he came down off the mountain, the brightness of the glory frightened the people!
However, being a human still in a body affected by sin, the glory on Moses' face could not remain; and the radiance did eventually fade away. So he covered his face with a veil, to keep the people from seeing it fade (Exodus 34:33-35 and 2 Corinthians 3:13).
In eternity, with the effects of sin being forever removed, things will be different. Then, the radiance of God's glory will be permanent - and this is something we can look forward to (Daniel 12:3; Matthew 13:43).

Glory Present
- Exodus 34:29-32 - It happened, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mountain, that Moses didn't know that the skin of his face shone by reason of his speaking with him [God]. When Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come near him. Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him; and Moses spoke to them. Afterward all the children of Israel came near, and he gave them all of the commandments that Yahweh had spoken with him on Mount Sinai.
The Veil and Fading Glory
- Exodus 34:33-35 - When Moses was done speaking with them, he put a veil on his face. But when Moses went in before Yahweh to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out; and he came out, and spoke to the children of Israel that which he was commanded. The children of Israel saw Moses' face, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
- 2 Corinthians 3:13 - ... Moses, who put a veil on his face, that the children of Israel wouldn't look steadfastly on the end of that [glory] which was passing away.
Future Glory
- Daniel 12:3 - Those who are wise shall shine as the brightness of the expanse; and those who turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.
- Matthew 13:43 - Then the righteous will shine forth like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
