The book of Genesis is a collection of historical accounts of various events from the creation of the world to the time that Israel began a 400-year stay in Egypt. Yet even though these accounts could be considered "separate," they are also intrinsically connected: The message of the individual accounts fits together as a unified whole.
- The first chapter records events that, for the most part, would not have been witnessed by humans.
- Each of the other historical accounts would have been witnessed by humans (except perhaps a few details in chapter 2). Most of these begin with with some type indicator, such as: "This is the history (or the generations) of..."
- Here is an experimental "prototype" for an outline of the book of Genesis: Genesis Outline. It is not complete, but is included here as a reminder or suggestion, in case a project of this scope were to be done at some point in the future.
