- This psalm is filled with examples from Israel's history of God's power and works. In spite of all that God did, Israel continued to distrust God and to rebel against him!

- The immediate context focuses on God's judgments against Egypt.
- God's mighty acts of power are consistent with his nature, and completely worthy of the greatest of praise. When we don't view them as worthy of praise, it is because our perspective is influenced by the values of the wicked world, rather than by the righteousness of God.
- When you return to God, your enemies will be destroyed – and not by human means! (= an illustration of God's greatness)
- Historically, God destroyed the Assyrian army that was threatening Jerusalem (Isaiah 37:36). But the complete abandonment of idolatry (v. 7) has yet to come - so there may also be a future (prophetic) application to this passage.
